Quality Layered Planks

The terms laminated plank, duo plank, multi plank or engineered wood floor can also refer to cheaper layered floors that mainly come from China. Such floors can have the following disadvantages:

  • The top layer is sometimes composed of several oak species and/or made of sapwood. As a result, the wood grain may be less beautiful, the wood is softer and less durable and the floor will not last as long.
  • The base layer is made of transverse wooden slats, the quality of which is lower than birch plywood.
  • The glue used is often not resistant to water, which can cause layers to peel off over time. This all affects the quality and therefore the lifespan of the floor.

Oak top layer

The top layer of 3 mm, 4 mm or 6 mm generally consists of oak, but is also available in other wood species , such as ruby, jatoba or walnut. The oak top layer is available from Uipkes in 3 wood grades:

Advantages of Engineered Wood Flooring

Our engineered floors Vincent, Floor and Robin offer many advantages compared to other types of wooden floors and floor coverings:

  • Birch plywood is a very stable support and ensures that engineered floors are ideally suited for underfloor heating or underfloor cooling, as opposed to solid wooden floors. In addition, Uipkes layered floors have a low resistance (Rc), so you do not have to use unnecessarily hard heat to get the room to a pleasant temperature.
  • Our parquet floor can be installed floating. This achieves a noise reduction of at least 11 dB, making engineered wood flooring also suitable for apartments that must meet a noise standard.
  • Engineered oak flooring from Uipkes can be sanded and finished with oil making the floor look like new again. You often don't even have to sand engineered wood flooring. Treating it with oil once every 3-5 years is often sufficient. So the floor will last a lifetime!
  • Oak parquet requires less hardwood than solid wood floors and is therefore better for the environment.
  • Engineered wood flooring costs less than a solid wooden floor.
  • There is hardly any the effect of the wood (warping, bulging due to moisture). This is because the underlayer is made of cross-glued birch plywood.
  • A engineered wood floor consists of real wood, which means that each floor part has a unique wood grain.

Floor With Or Without Bevel Edge

You can choose to install engineered wooden floorboards with or without a beveled edge. The sloping edge on the long side of the slat plank, at an angle of 45°, is called the 'Beveled edge' or 'V-seam'.

With a beveled edge, the floor looks a lot busier and attention is drawn to the accents on the floor. This is a more classic wooden floor look. For a modern and sleek appearance, you can choose extra wide floorboards without a beveled edge.

It is even possible to saw the floorboards without skirting boards, flush against the wall, which makes it even more modern. The choice depends on taste and what atmosphere you want to create in your home. Visit one of our showrooms to view examples and receive tailor-made advice.

Price factors

The engineered floor price depends on various factors:

  • Origin: does the wood of engineered floors come from a so-called 'low-wage country' or from a sustainably managed European forest?
  • What wood specie is the top layer of the slat plank made of: a softer wood specie or a more exclusive wood specie ?
  • Panel material: the material used to make the floor's underlay can be produced from many different underlays. Do you buy a plate made from waste (plastic) or do you use a suitable top layer made from sustainable materials with the most beautiful wood grain?
  • The thickness of the top layer of the engineered wood floor and the width and length of the floorboards influence the price.
  • How many knots are there in the floor? The wood grade, such as French oak or rustic French oak, is a price factor.

All the factors mentioned above influence the price of engineered wood flooring. You can put together unique, finished engineered wooden floorboards and have them sent or collected from our warehouse ready for installation from € 96 per m2, including VAT.

Would you rather outsource the installation of the engineered wood floor to our experienced parquet fitters? Engineered oak flooring of the best quality in any desired Uipkes® color, including preliminary inspection, subfloor, glue/materials, installation service and 5-year warranty is available from € 128 per m2 including VAT .

Frequently Asked Questions

What is engineered wood flooring?

Engineered wood flooring is a type of parquet floor that consists of different layers of wood. It is also called composite parquet or multi-layer parquet . The construction of engineered wooden floors usually consists of three layers:

  • Top layer: This is the visible layer of the floor and usually consists of solid hardwood, such as oak, walnut or beech. The top layer determines the appearance and finish of the floor.
  • Middle layer: The middle layer consists of a layer of cross-glued wooden slats or plywood. This layer provides stability and prevents the wood from warping due to fluctuations in humidity and temperature.
  • Underlayer: This is the bottom layer of the engineered wood floor and usually consists of a counter veneer or plywood. The underlay acts as a base and provides extra stability.

Parquet flooring is often produced in planks that can vary in length, width and thickness, depending on the manufacturer and the customer's desired design. It is usually installed using a glued or floating floor system, where the planks are placed on the subfloor with or without glue and nails, but using a click system or glue on the tongue and groove joints.

Parquet flooring combines the beauty and durability of solid wood with the stability and versatility of multi-layer construction, making it a popular choice for flooring in both residential and commercial applications.

What is the lifespan of engineered wood flooring?

The lifespan of engineered wood flooring produced in the Netherlands depends on various factors, such as the quality of the wood, the finish, the installation method, maintenance and use.

Regular vacuuming and mopping and the use of protective felt pads under furniture contribute to a longer lifespan of the floor, meaning it can last for decades.

By re-treating engineered wooden floorsvwith oil once every 2-5 years, you no longer have to sand the floor.

By not sanding the wooden floor, the floor will last decades longer than if you were to sand the floor.

Can engineered wood flooring be used on underfloor heating ?

Yes, engineered wood flooring can be installed on underfloor heating .

The underlay of the floorboards ensures that the wood is resistant to temperature changes and humidity fluctuations that can be associated with underfloor heating .

  • Underfloor heating system: ensure that the underfloor heating system is suitable for wooden floors and that the power and water temperature of the underfloor heating is tailored to the specific requirements of the engineered wood floor. We can advise you about this.
  • Subfloor: choose a subfloor that is suitable for underfloor heating . This can help distribute heat evenly and minimize heat retention.
  • Installation method: follow the manufacturer's recommended installation method if you decide to install the engineered wood floor yourself.

Can parquet flooring be supplied in different colours, patterns or sizes?

Yes, engineered wood flooring is available in different colours, patterns and sizes:

  • Colours: engineered wood flooring is available in 90 different color shades, ranging from lighter to darker shades. If you want a different color, we can make a custom color.
  • Patterns: in addition to the traditional plank pattern, engineered floors are available in different patterns, such as herringbone and chevron pattern floor. These patterns add a decorative element to the floor and can create a unique look.
  • Dimensions: engineered wood flooring can be supplied in different lengths, widths and thicknesses. Wider planks are available for a more modern look, as well as narrower planks for a more traditional or rustic look.

Is parquet flooring the same as laminate?

No, parquet and laminate are two different types of floor coverings, although they are often confused with each other. These are the main differences:

  • Material: Laminate parquet has a top layer of real wood, while laminate has a plastic layer that is glued to an HDF board.
  • Construction: Engineered wood flooring consists of several layers, with the top layer usually made of solid wood. The underlays can be made of different (wood) materials. Laminate, on the other hand, is usually a plastic layer on top of an HDF core.
  • Look and Feel: Laminate parquet offers the authentic look and feel of real wood. Laminate tries to imitate the look and feel of wood, but it will never have the same texture and warmth as real wood.
  • Durability: Laminate parquet can be sanded and refinished several times, which contributes to a longer lifespan. Laminate cannot be sanded and will therefore eventually need to be replaced.
  • Price:Laminate parquet is generally more expensive than laminate due to the use of real wood and the possibility of repair and maintenance. In the long term, laminate flooring is often cheaper, because laminate flooring needs to be replaced more often.
