Step 1: Clear the space

To prevent items from being damaged, it is important to clear the space. Once the wooden floor has been installed throughout the home, move the items from room to room or temporarily store the items elsewhere.

Step 2: Remove the wooden floor

If skirting boards have been used, we recommend that you remove them first. This makes it easier to start removing the wooden floor. After all, there is a bit of space between the wall and the floor, allowing you to reach under the floor with a crowbar and pull off the first floor section. This approach makes it easier to then remove the rest of the wooden floor.

During removal, the screed or walls may be damaged. If you want to renovate the walls in addition to the floor, it is therefore better to only do so after removing the wooden floor.

Step 3: Remove adhesive residue

A glued wooden floor always leaves adhesive residue behind after you have removed the floorboards. If the floor was glued with water-soluble glue, a little water is sufficient to remove the glue residue.

Glue that is not water soluble can be softened with glue remover. You can then scrape the adhesive residue from the floor with a putty knife.

Repair screed

When removing the wooden floor, the screed can be damaged. Before you install a new floor, it is important to repair any damage. This prevents imperfections from appearing in the new floor.

Choosing a new floor: keep this in mind

Before you choose a new floor, it is good to take a moment to consider making your home or business premises more sustainable. For example, with the installation of underfloor heating and insulating the floor saves a lot on heating costs. At Uipkes we can advise you about the options and carry out all the work for you.
