Does your engineered wood floor not look so nice anymore? Or is the floor color no longer to your liking? Then sanding and refinishing these parquet floors is the solution. In this blog article we tell you everything about the possibilities and the costs.

Engineered wood floor finished with oil

If the engineered wood floor has been finished with oil and you want to keep the floor in the same colour, then sanding is often not necessary. A treatment with oil is sufficient to repair light scratches and scuffs.

If you want to change the floor color or if there is damage in the floor and re-oiling does not give the desired result, the floor must be sanded.

Unlike parquet that has been finished with lacquer, you can also touch up oiled parquet locally. Ideal if the floor only needs maintenance in high traffic areas, such as the kitchen.

All wooden floors from Uipkes are oiled. Because sanding is not necessary in most cases, the top layer of the engineered wood floor is preserved and our wooden floors can last a lifetime.

Cost of sanding and oiling a parquet floor

Sanding and oiling parquet (engineered wood floor) costs approximately € 36 per m2. The price per m2 will be higher depending on any additional work that you want to carry out, such as re-milling the bevelled edges.

The price for sanding and oiling includes help with moving the furniture to another room on the ground floor or on the same floor where sanding and oiling takes place.

If this is not possible, we can sand and oil the floor in two stages, moving the furniture from one side of the room to the other. Contact us and receive a no-obligation quote for sanding and oiling your parquet floor.

Engineered wood floor finished with lacquer

With lacquered engineered wood floor, it is not possible to touch up the floor locally. To repair damage and wear spots, the floor must be completely sanded and varnished. The painting is done in 3 phases. First the floor is primed and then the floor is coated twice. Between phases 2 and 3, the floor is lightly sanded again.

Cost of sanding and lacquering parquet

Sanding and varnishing parquet costs about € 39 per m2. The price per m2 will be higher depending on any additional work that you want to do. Contact us and receive a no-obligation quote for sanding and varnishing your parquet floor.

How often can an engineered wood floor be sanded?

Parquet parquet consists of a bottom layer of cross-glued plywood and a top layer of solid wood. The thickness of the top layer affects the number of times the floor can be sanded. After all, with every sanding, a piece of the top layer disappears.

Because with oiled parquet, minor damage and wear spots can be removed without sanding, the floor lasts longer than when the floor is finished with a lacquer layer.

When is sanding not an option?

Sometimes it is no longer possible to sand a wooden floor. For example, if there is deep damage in the floor or if floor parts are bulging. Sanding parquet flooring is also not an option if the top layer of the parquet flooring is too thin because the floor has already been sanded several times.

If you are not sure whether your parquet floor can be sanded, please contact us. A wooden floor specialist can then assess the floor. If it turns out that sanding is no longer possible, we can issue a quote to remove the wooden floor and install a new floor.
