What are the advantages of a wooden floor including stair renovation

Combining a stair renovation with a new wooden floor offers a number of major advantages:

  1. Your hardwood stairwell exactly matches the color and wood specie of your floor.
  2. You save money on materials and labor costs by ordering and having the floor installed and the renovation of the stairwell carried out at the same time.
  3. The wooden stair steps can be placed on almost any surface (concrete/metal or wood).
  4. You save time because you can plan all activities with Uipkes and you do not have to deal with multiple contacts from multiple companies.
  5. You can adapt the wooden floor and stair renovation to your wishes. If you want certain wooden details in both the stairs and the wooden floors, we can take care of that. For example: a herringbone or chevron pattern that flows smoothly into the steps of a staircase to a sunken living room.
  6. Worn stair steps can easily be renovated/filled and then covered with beautiful oak steps. This means that no new stairs need to be installed.

Only covering the steps or complete stair renovation?

If you choose an Oak engineered wood floor, we can supply matching solid oak stair parts, finished with the same color oil or a contrasting color to create the desired look and transition. Just like the floor, the stairs are completely resistant to dirt and liquids and are easy to clean with a duster or mop.

Oak stair treads are available in any desired width and depth and are made up to 45 mm thick. We advise you about the options and indicate the expected costs in advance.

We have experience in renovating different types of stairs, such as straight stairs, L-shaped stairs, spiral stairs, open and closed stairs.

Closed stairs

The closed staircase ensures that heat can be retained in the room. The steps can be covered, but also the risers. Any twists in the stairs can be incorporated into the steps. In addition, the risers can be painted in any desired color to create contrast with the wood. If there are cracked slats, usually on stairs made before 1970, you can choose to fill them on the riser. This has removed the bar and gives you a visually higher riser.

Block stairs

With a block staircase, the steps and risers are glued at an angle of 90 degrees. These can be covered with beautiful oak steps. If there is a cheek/standing part on one of the sides, we can also cover this.

Open staircase

An open staircase provides a spacious appearance. In addition, an open staircase provides more light. The steps can be completely covered all around with Oak. To create contrast, you can also choose to only cover the top and the front/back view, the bottom can be painted in the color of the stairs.

Z-stage

For a modern, sleek look you can opt for a “Z staircase”. The riser and steps are placed at an oblique angle. The Z staircase can be fitted with beautiful oak steps. For a tight connection, the oak transfer steps and the riser can be finished with a stair nose. The advantage of a Z staircase is that there are often no overhanging parts, and the steps are usually somewhat wider. The oak can be sawn tightly against the (plastered) wall, and the steps can also be processed seamlessly around the stair stringer (this is the post around which the stairs revolve).

Solid oak steps

In addition to covering the stairs with wooden transfer steps, we supply and install stair steps made of solid oak. Suitable for, among other things, a spiral staircase or stairs with an existing frame. The solid oak stair steps vary in thickness from 30 / 40 mm. The stair steps are treated all around in one of our 90 colors.

Treating oak stairs

If there is already an oak staircase in the home or if a new Oak staircase is chosen, we can treat the stairs in one of Uipkes 90 unique colors. Before the stairs are installed, we can treat them in our workshop so that the drying process does not cause any hindrance. Discuss the options during a consultation in the showroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make the stairs or stair coverings in exactly the same color, texture and appearance as the wooden floors?

Yes, you can make the stairs, when they are new, in exactly the same color texture and/or appearance as the wooden floors. This is not always possible with existing floors and/or stairs or a combination of these. Contact us or visit our showroom for advice.

What type of wood is best to use for renovating stairs?

Different wood species can be used for stair renovation, such as oak. For example, oak wood is popular because of its durability and natural appearance. There are also many different colors available in oak.

Do I need to remove the existing steps before installing new wooden steps?

In most cases it is not necessary to remove the existing steps. New wooden steps can be placed directly over the old steps, as long as the existing stair structure is sturdy and stable. Please note that this will make the steps thicker.

How are the wooden steps attached to the existing stairs?

The new wooden steps can be attached using glue, screws or special stair renovation systems. The chosen mounting method depends on the type of stairs and the specific renovation requirements.

Do I need to finish or treat the wooden steps?

Yes, it is important to finish or treat the wooden steps to protect them from wear and damage. This can be done using lacquer, varnish, oil or other finishing products suitable for stairs. The advantage of oil is that this protection does not show wear over time.

Can I also renovate the stair railing with wood?

Yes, the stair railing can also be renovated with wood. This can be done by installing new wooden railings or by covering the existing railing with wooden panels or a wood veneer. This can be done in the same color, texture and appearance as the stairs and the floor.
