Wood floor floating on foam underlay
The floating installation method is generally used to reduce noise. With this method, the wooden floors are installed on foam underlay.
A floating wooden floor has a noise reduction of 11dB and is therefore suitable for apartments. We provide the subfloors with an 11 db sound reduction certificate if you like. Also, when the wooden floor has to be moved to a new home, a floating installation method is the way to go. A floating wooden floor can be installed in existing homes and is also very suitable for new buildings. With this method the floor is installed on foam foil. This can only be done with engineered wood floorboards. For this method, the width of the floorboards doesn't matter.
PROPERTIES OF THIS INSTALLATION METHOD:
- Sounds like a real wooden floor with a moderate soundproofing effect.
- Good heat insulation.
- Can be installed on underfloor heating.
- Noise reduction up to 11dB.
- Bonding of tongue and groove is necessary.
- Moderately leveling
- The method is very suitable for the DIY.
- The thickness of the subfloor is approximately 3 mm.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING A FLOATING A WOODEN FLOOR ON FOIL FOAM UNDERLAY
Of course, we can install and finish the wooden floor for you. If you prefer to do this work yourself, you can do this by following the steps below:
- Clean the subfloor of dust, stucco and glue residues.
- Remove protruding parts on the floor.
- Roll out the vapor-proof foil on the subfloor at a right angle to the direction you are installing the floor. Put the colored or aluminum side of the foil up.
- Stick the strips together with the supplied aluminum tape.
- Install the first row of floorboards, with the groove to the wall, with an expansion gap (opening to the wall) of about 20 mm, also at the front sides.
- Use sufficient spacers to maintain the expansion gap while installing the floor.
- Glue the floorboards on the end connections and on the long sides pointwise every 30 cm with drops of seam glue.
- Install the second row and push it with a spare floorboard of approximately 20cm.
- Make sure the end of the neck is offset from the first row, at least 40 cm.
- Install the entire floor in a staggered pattern, use the short sawn of pieces directly at the start side, make use of the tongue and groove connection on the end sides.
- After assembly of the last floorboard, remove the spacers and finish the floor with cover strips.
Note: If you install Robin Series layered planks (total 20 mm thick, top 6 mm, untreated), you should first finish the floor before installing the cover strips or skirting boards.
