Frequently Asked Questions

What to pay attention to with a wooden floor?

1. Floor type

  • Solid Wood: Made from one piece of wood, can be sanded and finished multiple times. Sensitive to temperature and moisture changes.
  • Engineered wood floor: Consists of several layers, more stable and better resistant to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. This also makes it suitable for installation on underfloor heating .

2. Type of wood

  • Hardwood: Such as oak, walnut, maple are durable and will last a lifetime. Oak has an attractive grain and is easy to work with.
  • Softwood: Such as pine and spruce. Less durable and more susceptible to scratches.

3. Finishing

  • Lacquered: Hard, durable finish, easy to clean.
  • Oiled: Natural appearance with organic linseed oil; Rub with oil once every 3-5 years for a completely new look.

4. Color and Pattern

  • Choose a color and pattern (such as herringbone, wide planks) that match your interior.
  • At Uipkes you can choose from 90 custom colors.

5. Installation

  • Floating Floor: Planks are clicked together. Easy to install, can make more noise. Not possible with herringbone or Hungarian point.
  • Glued: Planks are glued directly to the subfloor for a sturdier and quieter result.

6. Maintenance

  • Vacuum or sweep regularly.
  • Avoid excess water and aggressive cleaning agents.
  • Use felt pads under furniture.
  • Optimal humidity is between 40% - 60% (measured with a hygrometer). Although engineered wood flooring hardly 'works', prolonged humidity that is too high or too low can lead to damage.

7. Budget

  • Consider the cost of the wood, installation and long-term maintenance.

8. Environmental friendliness

  • Choose wood from sustainably managed forests (quality marks such as FSC or PEFC).

9. Warranty

  • Please note warranty. Uipkes Wood Flooring concludes all agreements under CBW conditions.

Which wooden floor on underfloor heating ?

When choosing a wooden floor for underfloor heating , you must take several factors into account:

Thickness and width:
Thin planks provide better heat conduction. Our planks are 12mm to 16mm thick with an Rc value between 0.070 and 0.088 kW per m2 and can be combined with underfloor heating up to 28 cm wide.

Wood type:
Oak wood is very suitable because of its stability and good price/quality ratio. Other suitable wood species are Merbau and Afzelia. Avoid unstable wood species such as beech and jatoba.

Construction:
Engineered wood flooring, consisting of a birch plywood underlay and wooden top layer, offers good heat conduction and stability. Hardly works due to the strong underlay.

Installation method:
Gluing is recommended for optimal heat transfer, especially on concrete subfloors.

Moisture content:
Make sure the subfloor is dry and have it professionally inspected.

Installation pattern:
Wooden panel floors and other installation patterns such as chevron or herringbone can also be used on underfloor heating

Underfloor heating system:
Wooden floors from Uipkes are suitable for various underfloor heating systems. Both dry construction and wet construction systems can be used, as well as systems with heat pumps.

Temperature and humidity:
Keep the underfloor heating below 27°C to prevent damage. Maintain a constant humidity (45-60%) to preserve the floor.

Installation:
Have both the wooden floor and underfloor heating professionally installed. We can take care of both.

Factors that influence the price:

  • Type of floor: Engineered wood flooring is cheaper than solid wood and can be combined with underfloor heating .
