Tile floor as a basis

On an existing tiled floor where underfloor heating is already present in the floor, it is quite possible to place a wooden floor directly over it to paste. You do not have to remove the existing floor and you can simply install the new wooden floor over the existing floor. However, the floor must be flat and firm.

Only with Slate it is not possible to glue the wooden floor directly onto it. Slate is too porous to glue a floor onto.

Preparations Tile floor

Before a wooden floor can be placed on a tiled floor, a number of points must be completed.

  • Check whether the tiles are secure, you can do this by tapping on them. If there is a hollow sound, the tile is not fixed. The advice is to take it out.
  • Remove or replace broken tiles. Also check whether the tiles are flat. If this is not the case, the tiles may need to be leveled. If the height differences are too great, the tiles must be removed.
  • Level deep joints to create a level base.
  • After this, you should degrease the existing 'old' floor with a cleaner and then mop with clean water.
  • After this, roughen the existing tile floor with grit 24, then vacuum.
  • Prime the roughened floor with a primer, then glue the wooden floor with a coarser comb to properly fill any height differences.

Installing The Floor

A wooden floor can be installed either floating or glued. With patterns such as the chevron or herringbone, we always choose to fully glue them to the subfloor. The advantage of this is that the floor is well secured and has less resistance on your underfloor heating system. In the case of a floating floor, we will install a special subfloor on which the wooden floor is installed. This subfloor is suitable for combination with underfloor heating .

What about the Underfloor heating ?

It is already known that a wooden floor can be installed on a tiled floor with underfloor heating . But what about the operation of underfloor heating ? The warm-up time, time required for the system to reach the desired temperature, will increase slightly. This is because there are now 2 layers on top of the underfloor heating . However, nowadays composite wooden floors are often used. These are specially made to combine with underfloor heating . Both as main or additional heating.
