Wood is one of the few renewable raw materials besides cork and wool. This makes wood a more ecologically responsible choice than, for example, tiles or PVC. As long as the wooden floor is in place, it stores CO2. Sustainable forest management ensures that future generations can still enjoy the forests and wooden floors.

In addition to the ecological benefits, wooden floors also provide economic benefits. Because wooden floors can be renovated over time by oiling and/or sanding them, they have a long lifespan and retain their value. This makes the investment you make when purchasing the floor an investment for life. Having a wooden floor in your home is also something that contributes to improving the value of your home.

Wooden floors and water

If you exercise some caution, you can use engineered floors in the bathroom. Installing a solid wooden floor in the bathroom is not recommended. Due to the large difference in humidity during and after showering, as well as the contact of water directly on the wooden floor, problems arise with the expansion and contraction of these floors.

Despite the fact that wooden floors in these areas must always be glued, moisture can still flow between the planks. This has consequences for the quality of the wooden floor. The effects of shampoo and shower foam, for example, also have consequences for the finishing layer. Because a seam edge of 15 mm to 20 mm also remains in the bathroom (all around) and this seam edge is normally covered with, for example, a cover strip, this finish will 'never' be waterproof.

  • If you have the wooden floor installed in the bathroom, this can extend all the way to the room where you shower. Showering cannot (obviously) take place on the wooden floor. 
  • You can walk on the wooden floor quietly after your bath and/or shower, without drying yourself. You don't have to be afraid of a water ballet.
  • The floor could even be mopped every day if desired.

What is an ensuite bathroom?

With an ensuite bathroom, the bedroom and bathroom are openly connected. This can be done by removing, for example, a door or wall between the bedroom and bathroom. Placing the bath in the bathroom also creates an ensuite bathroom. To create unity and tranquility, you can opt for a wooden floor. This floor is suitable for both the bedroom and the bathroom and can continue into this from one room to another room. It is also possible to place the bath on the wooden floor.

Connecting a wooden floor to another floor type

A wooden shower floor is not a good option. In the wet room it is advisable to choose a floor that is more resistant to the amount of water and shower gel. Floors that are often used in the shower are tile and cast floors. Uipkes wooden floors can be connected seamlessly to this. In the case of a cast floor, a minimum profile must be used when the floor is poured. The tile or cast floor must be brought to the same height as the wooden floor. In this case, no sill or edge needs to be used, which ensures a sleek finish. It is also possible to install the wooden floor tightly against a shower tray.

Maintenance

Maintenance is important to extend the lifespan of the wooden floor, especially in a damp room. The floor must be cleaned periodically with maintenance products. In addition, depending on use, the floor will have to be treated with oil again after 3-5 years. After this, the floor is protected again for years to come.
