Herringbone on underfloor heating

A herringbone floor goes perfectly with underfloor heating . Uipkes has years of experience with this. Whether the underfloor heating serves as main or additional heating, the herringbone floor can be installed over it as engineered wood floor .

In fact, the wooden herringbone floor can even be installed over an existing tiled floor with underfloor heating . Even then, the wooden floor and the room heat up wonderfully quickly.

We mainly use oak engineered floors. This is a layered floor with a top layer of oak and a bottom layer of cross-glued birch plywood. The resistance of the wood we use is low (Rc=0.088), which means the heating time is shorter and the room stays warm for longer.

The top layer we use is 4 mm oak and therefore has a lifespan of many decades. You can also sand it several times if you find this necessary in the future or if you are ready for a new look or color finish.

You can combine wooden herringbone floors from Uipkes with underfloor cooling and various underfloor heating systems, which we can also install for you.

Herringbone with Underfloor heating in New Construction or Renovation Homes

The sometimes centuries-old houses in Dutch cities are also equipped with existing wooden construction floors, so-called dry construction systems are used for this. The herringbone floor can also be perfectly combined with this.

Do you have a new-build home ? These underfloor heating systems are very suitable for directly gluing a herringbone floor over it. In any case, we always check four weeks in advance whether your subfloor is suitable. This way you can enjoy your new underfloor heating floor with peace of mind.

Visgraat parket, PVC of laminaat?

Herringbone floor including installation

At Uipkes Wood Flooring you not only get a beautiful herringbone floor, but also all the services surrounding the installation of the floor. Before installation, we will visit you to measure everything and, where necessary, we will immediately advise you on the best approach. We check whether the subfloor has the correct composition and contains the correct moisture percentage. We also check whether it is flat enough.

Finally, we look at the laying direction of the herringbone floor. This is often towards the main light source or along the length of the room, so that the pattern stands out beautifully and makes the room appear larger.

In short, we discuss all details surrounding the implementation with you well in advance, so that you know what to expect. There is also plenty of time to work together to achieve the best end result. It takes away your worries about the correct order and whether the result is as you expected. You always get a unique herringbone floor, completely custom-made and installed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a herringbone floor and how is it installed?

A herringbone floor is a floor in which the floorboards are placed against each other at an angle of 90 degrees. This creates a motif that resembles a herringbone. The floor is installed with the point created by placing the floorboards perpendicular to each other, in the longitudinal direction of a room.

What is the origin of the herringbone pattern?

The herringbone pattern is derived from the skeleton of a herring. The pattern has been in use for thousands of years and can be found in jewelry of nobles and artistic expressions in ancient Egypt.

The herringbone pattern was first used as parquet flooring more than 500 years ago in the 16th century, mainly in country houses and castles of noble families.

Is the herringbone floor a trend-sensitive product?

The herringbone parquet floor is an absolute classic that you can give a modern twist. The pattern is thousands of years old and deeply rooted in the human subconscious and is a recognizable symbol, making the herringbone wooden floor less susceptible to trends.

How much does a wooden herringbone floor cost?

The price of a wooden herringbone floor depends on a number of factors, such as the wood specie , the width of the floorboards, the choice of solid wood or engineered wood and the type of finish, such as the color, skirting boards, band and piping.

Installing a floor in a herringbone pattern is labor-intensive and precision work. It is therefore advisable to have this floor installed instead of installing it yourself, which also entails installation costs. The choices make it difficult to give a price tag per m2, every floor is custom-made.

All herringbone prices mentioned include color finish and VAT and exclude subfloor, glue and installation. Final prices depend on the preliminary inspection and your wishes.

What variations are there on the standard herringbone pattern?

There are several variations possible on the standard herringbone pattern. This could, for example, be a double or triple herringbone. In addition, the installation direction can be turned a quarter turn for a modern-looking elbow pattern.

How do I choose the right size herringbone floorboards?

Choose the right size herringbone floor depending on the space and the atmosphere you want to create. In a large room with small shelves, the floor will require a lot of attention. This is because there are many floorboards, each of which has its own color and structure. If you have a large 'boring' room that you would like to decorate more, you can choose a smaller size because more 'happens' in the room.

If you have a home from, for example, 1850 and you want to retain the feeling of that time, then choose smaller floor parts with a band, piping and high skirting boards, similar to the style of that time. You can also make a combination of these choices to give the whole a slightly more calm or modern look.

If you have a new-build home or penthouse and you like a minimalist style, then choose large herringbone planks, for example 22 or 24 cm wide. You can place these floorboards against the wall without a belt. It is possible to have the floorboards cut completely cold against the walls. In this case you do not need skirting boards and the design becomes even more minimalist. After all, you only have a large-sized plank and not the band, piping or skirting board that all require attention.

You always use the rule of thumb that the living room is leading when determining the dimensions of the floorboards. After all, this is your main residence and this is where you spend most of your time. The corridor is a space in which you move from one room to another: the so-called circulation areas.

You do not adjust the format accordingly. You can probably start in the middle here, so that the pattern is evenly distributed from left to right. Get advice on determining the correct size for the best results.

Which wood specie is mainly used for herringbone parquet floors?

The herringbone floor is mainly supplied in oak because of the favorable properties of this wood specie and the relatively lower costs compared to other (tropical) wood species . Oak herringbone parquet is durable and will last a lifetime.

Can I have a wooden floor made to measure?

Yes, you can make custom colors and herringbone planks at a wooden floor specialist like Uipkes. This way you always get a handmade floor according to your personal wishes.

What are the differences between herringbone PVC, laminate and wooden floors?
