What are the advantages of a parquet floor as a subfloor?

Using a parquet floor as a subfloor offers several advantages, including:

  • Flat and stable base: Parquet floors are usually properly installed and provide a solid foundation for the new floor finish.
  • Sound insulation: Parquet floors naturally have some sound insulation properties, which means they can reduce sound transmission.
  • Comfort: A parquet floor often feels warm and comfortable, which can increase the comfort level of the new floor finish.

Are specific preparations required before a parquet floor can be used as a subfloor?

Yes, there are some important preparations you need to make before using a parquet floor as a subfloor:

  • Check the condition: Make sure the parquet floor is in reasonable condition, without badly damaged or loose planks. Repair any damage before installing the new floor finish.

Is a moisture barrier necessary on a parquet floor?

Depending on the type of soil or situation, a moisture barrier may be desirable. A moisture barrier can retain moisture from the parquet floor and prevent it from damaging the new floor finish.

Is extra sound insulation necessary when using a parquet floor as a subfloor?

Since parquet floors have some natural sound-insulating properties, additional sound insulation is not always necessary. However, it depends on the specific noise requirements and the floor finish you want to install. If sound insulation is important, you can consider using a sound-insulating underlay on top of the parquet floor.
